NGOs in Rajasthan will be campaigning against the use of anti-biotic in meat products as they observe the World Consumer Rights Day on March 15.

Consumers International, a world federation of consumer groups that promotes consumers' access to nutritious and safe food, has decided to observe the World Consumer Rights Day 2016 with the theme 'Antibiotics off the Menu'.

"The organisation will urge the fast food companies around the world to make a commitment to stop the sale of meat raised with the routine use of antibiotics," Deepak Saxena, Programme Officer of Consumer Unity Trust Society (CUTS) said.

The theme has been taken up in view of World Health Organisation's (WHO) warning that the antibiotic resistance is rising to dangerously high levels in all parts of the world, Saxena said.

"The report also outlines that we are heading to a post-antibiotic era, in which important medicines would stop working and common infections and minor injuries can once again kill," he said.
