Industrial units contaminating the city's environment by releasing toxic pollutants today came under the scanner of the National Green Tribunal which sought response from the Centre and Delhi government on the issue.
A bench, headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar, issued notices to the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF), Delhi government, East Delhi Municipal Corporation and others while seeking their replies by January 11.
The directions came while hearing a plea filed by East Delhi resident Kamal Kishore who has sought directions to seal with immediate effect the illegal factories in Mandoli area here.

"These factories cause air pollution by burning oil, rubber tyres, wires, scrap etc...The applicant sent complaints to the different departments but they did not take any legal action against the illegal factories," the plea, filed through advocate G K Chauhan, said.
Kishore has videographed the pollution caused by these units and also prepared a CD, which he submitted to the Tribunal.
