NGT restrains civic bodies from discharging waste into Beas

National Green Tribunal has restrained all civic bodies from throwing municipal waste directly or indirectly into Beas River or its tributaries.

The order was passed during a hearing on a letter written to Himachal High Court for checking direct and indirect pollution into the river.

The Tribunal's circuit bench headed by its chairperson Justice Swantater Kumar restrained civic bodies from discharging any untreated effluents into the river and also issued notices to secretaries of Nagar panchayat and Marketing Committee of Bhuntar for flouting norms.

The Tribunal observed that Beas River and its tributaries were being polluted seriously and was bound to cause serious health hazards.
