The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation has assured Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal that repair work of the NH-37 from Nagaon to Dibrugarh will start tomorrow and will be completed within 15-days, a state government release said here today.

Director of NHIDCL, V K Rajawat also informed that bitumen topping work on the National Highway would be completed within January next year, the release said.

Reviewing the progress and plan of work of NHIDCL here today, Sonowal expressed dissatisfaction over the snail progress of work by the central government organisation and directed them to ensure early completion of repairing and construction works.

Underscoring the need for a permanent office of NHIDCL in Guwahati for effective supervision of construction works, Sonowal advocated greater coordination between state and central government organisations for seamless implementation of road projects.

He also directed the NHIDCL to prepare detailed project report (DPR) for widening and strengthening of NH passing through Dibrugarh town besides asking the state PWD to entrust one official to liaise with the Central government for perusal of schemes to ensure speedy clearance.

Sonowal also came down heavily on the "unprofessional attitude of contractors who are carrying out various road projects under PWD and asked the department to cancel work order and initiate strict action including filing FIR against contractors who fail to meet the timeline", the release said.

The NHIDCL director informed the chief minister that NH bypass at Dibrugarh will be completed within March next year and 31 km stretch on NH 54-E from Ditukcherra to Balacherra will be constructed using biadoc technology.

The NHAI representatives present in the meeting informed the chief minister that they have already submitted 14 estimates for road related works under Annual Plan, 2017-18 amounting to Rs 396.46 crore, the release added.
