NHPC, BHEL sign pact for renovation of Baira Siul power plant

State-owned NHPC today said it has entered a pact with BHEL for renovation and modernisation of 180 MW Baira Siul power station in Himachal Pradesh.

"NHPC... Signed a contract agreement for R&M (renovation and modernisation) of 180 MW Baira Siul power station in Himachal Pradesh," a company statement said.

NHPC CMD K M Singh and BHEL CMD Atul Sobti, along with other senior officials, were present during the contract-signing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh said Baira Siul is the first power station of NHPC since it started its journey to become a major hydropower and today the company has commissioned 21 stations with a total capacity of 6,667 mw.
 

BHEL has been NHPC's long-standing partner and 11 power stations of NHPC have used BHEL machinery.

Baira Siul will be NHPC's first power station where R&M works will be undertaken for the purpose of life extension of the generating station.

The scope of the agreement includes electromechanical works package comprising supply, installation, commissioning of turbines and accessories and dismantling of the existing system.

NHPC has awarded the work to BHEL at a total value of Rs 132.74 crore.
