Acknowledging the valiant efforts put in by police officer Gulzar Hussain, assassinated in an ambush, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has decided to offer financial support to his two minor children.

Based on the request for financial support made by Roushanara Begum, wife of slain Sonitpur district ASP Hussain, NHPC's Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric Project took up the matter with their Corporate Office at Faridabad.

The NHPC's board deliberating on the issue approved Rs five lakh each to the two minor children - daughter Mehzabin (4 years) and son Junaid (4 months), a press release of the public sector power company said.

Subansiri Lower HE Project has implemented the NHPC Board's approval through bank fixed deposits for ten years for Junaid and 14 years for Mehzabin with maturity value of Rs 11,59,452 and Rs 15,15,583, respectively.

The fixed deposit receipts were handed over to Begum by the representatives of Subansiri Lower HE Project in the presence of Sonitpur district SP Sanjukta Parashar today at Tezpur, it said.

Hussain was killed and five other policemen injured in an ambush by National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Sangbijit militants at Batachipur near Dhekiajuli town in Sonitpur district of north Assam on January 28 this year.
