National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notices to Union Health Secretary, AIIMS Director and Delhi Police Commissioner over death of a eight-year-old accident victim, due to alleged denial of treatment at top city hospitals.

They have been given two weeks by the Commission to respond.

Commission slapped the notices by taking cognizance of a media report which said that the victim, Neha, was denied admission at Safdarjung Hospital, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and AIIMS Trauma Centre on August 12.

She was run over by a truck at South Delhi's Rangpuri that day at around 2 pm, following which a close relative made rounds of the premier hospitals carrying her injured body, accompanied by a policeman.

"They again called Police Control Room for their intervention. Police arrived and had a word with the doctors at AIIMS and subsequently, she was declared dead at 6.30 pm. Her uncle, Pradeep, allegedly, said that she was dying but nobody even bothered to check her," the Commission said.

The family members of the girl work as labourers and have no regular income.
