National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to district authorities of Ghaziabad over an incident where a child worker was allegedly tied to a pole and beaten by his employer.
According to an official statement released today, it has issued notices to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh calling for a report within two weeks in this connection.
The notices were issued after the commission took suo motu cognizance of a media report along with a photograph depicting a child worker tied up with a pole with his hands up alleging that he was beaten up in a coal shop by its owner for stealing and selling coal worth Rs 100.

"The incident was reported to have happened on December 16 at a shop named as Shiv Coal Depot located in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh," the official statement said.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child.
