NHRC issues notice to Lucknow Railway police

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to Railway Police of Lucknow on allegations of a girl being gangraped at Charbagh railway station and dumped in a Malda bound train.

The Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the case in which 16 year-old girl after being allegedly gang raped was dumped in a Malda bound train with serious injuries on the night of August 16.

"The contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim girl," the Commission observed.

Report has been sought in the matter from the Superintendent of Police, Government Railway Police of Lucknow within two weeks.
 

Reportedly, the girl was later found by the police when she reached Patna by Farakka Express. She was medically examined and her statement was recorded before the Magistrate.

They informed the Lucknow Government Railway Police.

Subsequently, five accused and a woman were arrested with whom the girl was staying in Lucknow.
