National Human Rights Commission today sought a report from Haryana's Sonepat district authorities in connection with the death of a minor after she fell in an open manhole in the city.
According to a statement released today, the NHRC issued notice in this regard after the Commission took suo motu cognisance of a media report that a 3-year-old girl died after she fell into an open manhole of a sewer pipeline in Saraswati Vihar in Sonepat district on March 20.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the child and issued notice to the Sonepat District Magistrate seeking a report in the matter within four weeks.
"The girl had gone out of her house around 6:30 PM but she did not return. After around two hours of search, she was found in the manhole. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital where the doctor declared her brought dead. The news clipping was forwarded by a human rights activist," the statement said.
