NHRC today sought reports from Delhi government and the three Municipal Corporations of the city in connection with school children allegedly being served substandard food under mid-day meal scheme.

The National Human Rights Commission issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Delhi Government and Commissioners of South, East and North Delhi Corporations.

An NHRC statement said media reports suggested that out of 162 samples of mid-day meals served in schools run by these corporations, only eight passed the minimum requirements.

NHRC has asked the concerned authorities to submit reports within four weeks.

The officers concerned have also been directed to inform the Commission of the steps taken for improving the quality of mid-day meal as well as functioning of NGOs which are supplying it to the schools.

The Commission in its notice has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of right to health of children.
