"Taking suo motu cognizance, the NHRC has issued notices to the Secretary of Department of Medical Education of Uttar Pradesh and District Magistrate of Gorakhpur to submit a report in the matter within two weeks," a statement from the Commission said.

According to reports, following the death of a patient at Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur, heated argument broke out between relatives of the patient and some junior doctors, who allegedly thrashed the relatives.

When media persons tried to record the statement of the patient's family members and photographed them, the junior doctors allegedly attacked them also.

Subsequently, medical services in the hospital were completely paralysed and the junior doctors allegedly stopped the main supply of oxygen due to which six patients died.

"The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise the serious issue of violation of human rights of Right to Health of the patients," the NHRC said.
