NHRC seeks explanation after youth dies falling off train

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Secretary of Railway Board and Senior Superintendent of Railway Police in Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh over an incident in which a youth died after he was allegedly pushed out of a moving train by a Travel Ticket Examiner (TTE).

The Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that a youth fell on the track and died when a Travel Ticket Examiner (TTE) on board the Gorakhdham Express pushed him out of the running train near Khalilabad Railway Station on July 23.

Reportedly, the youth was travelling from Delhi to Gorakhpur and during checking in the General Compartment of the train, he was found without ticket following which the TTE demanded Rs 500 and the youth could not pay.
 

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim.

Accordingly, it has issued notices to the Secretary, Railway Board and Senior Superintendent of Railway Police, Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh calling for reports within two weeks.
