Taking suo motu cognizance of a message sent to one of its members, National Human Rights Commission has directed officials of Nagapattinam district to submit the status report of former actress Nisha, who has been reportedly abandoned and admitted to a hospital for treatment.
On receiving a message with photographs that Nisha, a former Tamil actress, was lying sick unattended on the streets of Nagapattinam, NHRC member Justice D Murugesan directed the District Revenue Officer and Superintendent of Police to evacuate the woman and arrange for her medical treatment, an NHRC release said.
The message read, "Look the fate of Tamil actress. She is a Muslim lady. She had acted in various Tamil films as heroine with leading actors like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and under the direction of Balachander, Vishu and Chandra Sekar in various films. She is found lying in front of Nagore Dargah affected by serious ailments with insects and ants all over the body. Nobody is there to take care of her."

The Commission directed the District Collector, and SP, Nagapattinam, to submit the status report and the details of medical treatment being provided to the woman within four weeks, it added.
