The rights body has asked the DIG to file a report within four week on media reports of beating of the foreign national and his Indian friend for helping locals in chasing a car that ran away after hitting a woman.
According to NHRC statement, on December 12 last year the two had given lift to three locals, who requested them to help chase a car which after hitting a woman near Kankarkheda bypass sped away towards Modipuram in Western Uttar Pradesh.
The locals found the car was parked at Modipuram Police post and its occupants were the in-charge and other personnel of Pallavpuram Police Post, who were in civil clothes.
After getting to know those involved in hit-and-run incident were police personnel, the locals withdrew along with the foreigner and his friend, who was a Delhi resident.
But they were intercepted at Dadri police post on the instructions from Pallavpuram police post and the duo were allegedly beaten up.
They were taken to Daurala police station where the police personnel forced them to write an apology saying they were on the wrong side of the law.
