NIA arrests one accused in murder of 2 BJP leaders in Bharuch

The National Investigation Agency today arrested a person who was allegedly involved in the murder of two BJP leaders in Bharuch in Gujarat.

Nasirkhan Pathan, who allegedly provided the weapon used for killing of Shirish Bengali and Pragnesh Mistry in Bharuch on November 2, was arrested, a statement issued by the NIA said.

BJP local leaders Bengali and Mistry were shot dead allegedly by two motorcycle borne assailants at Surya Printing Press, near Mira Traders, Bharuch.

During examination, Khan confessed about his involvement in the crime, the statement said.

Initially the double murder case was investigated by Bharuch city police. During investigation, eleven accused persons were arrested. Interrogation of the arrested accused persons led to a larger conspiracy to kill selected people of the society to strike terror in the minds of the common people, it said.
 

The Home Ministry handed over the investigation of the case to NIA, which re-registered a case against the accused on December 5.

Pathan will be produced before the Special NIA Court, Ahmedabad tomorrow. NIA will seek police remand of the accused for his detailed interrogation, the release said.
