A special NIA court has ordered framing of charges against Maharashtra-based ISIL recruit Areeb Ejaz Majeed for having conspired to carry out terrorist acts.

The National Investigation Agency had in November 2014 registered a case against Majeed and his three associates-- Saheem Farooque Tanki, Fahad Tanweer Shaikh and Aman Nayeem Tandel-- for allegedly conspiring to carry out terrorist activities, as members of the banned ISIL, against India.

The case was registered on the basis of a credible source information that four youths from Kalyan, Maharashtra, had gone to Iraq with a group on May 25, 2014, under the guise of performing 'Ziyarat' (religious) tour, the probe agency said today.

Subsequently, they left the group without intimating the tour guide and the other pilgrims and went to Syria to join the ISIL, it said.

The family members of these youths had filed missing complaints as they had left without intimating anyone. Out of the four youths, Majeed, returned to India on November 28, 2014, but was apprehended by the ATS, Mumbai, and, later, arrested by the NIA.

"Investigation by the NIA has established that Majeed and his three associates had joined the proscribed terrorist organisation, ISIL, and had undergone training in guerrilla warfare.

"After joining the ISIL, Majeed had participated in various terrorist acts, in Iraq and Syria and was injured on two occasions while himself performing Fidayeen attacks," a press release issued by NIA said.

After completion of the investigation, the NIA filed a charge sheet under various Sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Indian Penal Code against arrested accused Majeed, on May 20, 2015.

The NIA court in Mumbai had yesterday ordered framing of charges against Majeed for commission of offences under the UAPA and IPC "for having conspired to carry out terrorist acts", the release said.
