Nickel prices climbed 1.97 per cent to Rs 809.20 per kg in futures trade in the evening session today as speculators enlarged positions on positive cues from global markets.

The exchange opened for the evening session as it remained closed in the morning for 'Mahavir Jayanti'.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in April was trading higher by Rs 14.60, or 1.97 per cent, at Rs 809.20 per kg in a business volume of 3,839 lots.

On similar lines, the metal for delivery in May traded higher by Rs 15.20, or 1.90 per cent, to Rs 816.10 per kg in 65 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in nickel futures to a firm trend in the metal at the London Metal Exchange (LME).

Globally, nickel climbed 1.5 per cent to USD 12,890 per tonne on the LME.
