Nickel spurts on stockists' demand, global cues

Nickel prices spurted in an otherwise lackluster non-ferrous metal market here today due to renewed stockists and industrial demand in the backdrop of global price rise.

Elsewhere, select copper edged-up on mild offtake from consumer industries.

The prices of industrial metal Nickel climbed to their highest in seven weeks in early trade driven by speculators on worries that the Philippines could follow Indonesia in banning unprocessed ore exports.

Nickel surged further by Rs 10 per kg to Rs 1,265 from Thursday's closing level of Rs 1,255.

Copper cable scrap, copper scrap heavy and copper wire bar inched up by a Re per kg each to Rs 491, Rs 483 and Rs 519, respectively.
 

However, copper utensils scrap softened by a Re per kg to Rs 444.
