Nifty ends at all-time closing high of 8,344.25

The Nifty ended at all-time closing high of 8,344.25 after hitting an life-time peak of 8,383.05 on fresh buying mainly in FMCG sector on the back of heavy capital inflows from foreign funds.

Global markets also boosted the market sentiment.

Meanwhile, the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth net Rs 2,537.13 crore on last Friday, according to provisional figures from stock exchanges.

The 50-share Nifty resumed higher 8,337.80 and shot up further to an life-time high of 8,383.05 on initial strong buying. However, it declined afterwards to 8,304.45 on profit booking before ending at all-time closing high of 8,344.25, still showing a marginal gain of 7.25 points or 0.09 per cent.
 

Major nifty gainers were ITC 4.51 pct, Bank Of Baroda 2.35 pct, Powergreed 2.21 pct, Tata Power 2.19 pct and Sun Pharma 1.90 pct.

However, ONGC fell by 3.77 pct, Jindal Steel 3.56 pct, Hindalco 2.63 pct, Larsen 2.08 pct and Tata Motor 2.07 pct.

Turnover in the cash segment dropped to 16,679.09 crs from Rs 22,226.10 on last Friday. A total of 9,155.73 lakh shares changed hands in 73,62,019 trades, while market capitalisation stood at Rs 95,22,002 crore.
