Nifty ends below 9,300 mark

The benchmark Nifty retreated from overnight record highs to drop 74.60 points to finish at 9,285.30 amid across the spectrum profit-booking led by FMCG, Energy and Banking space hovered by plunge in global crude and ahead of the US job data.

The key indices opened on positive note marking fresh life-time highs at 9,377.10, but immediately fell-down on intense volatility, it witnessed gradual declines between the instances of failed intra-day pull-back, the market finally ended with sharp losses.

The 50-share barometer opened higher at 9,374.55 and and rose to 9,377.10, late marked intra-day low of 9,272.00 before settling at 9,285.30, showing a loss of 74.60 points, or 0.80 per cent.
 

Asian stocks ended mixed. European markets were also trading mixed as tumbling oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.

Nifty Metal dropped 2.42 per cent, followed by Media 2.32 per cent, Energy 1.77 per cent, PSU Bank 1.76 per cent, Commodities 1.43 per cent, FMCG 1.34 per cent, CPSE 1.33 per cent, Auto 1.02 per cent, Realty 0.93 per cent, Consumption 0.85 per cent, Infra 0.75 per cent, FinService 0.68 per cent, Bank 0.51 per cent, Pvt Bank 0.41 per cent and IT 0.20 per cent.

The broader mid-cap and small-cap also lost by 0.99 per cent and 1.48 per cent respectively.

Major index losers were Bank of Baroda 4.27 per cent, Tata Motors 3.87 per cent, Hindalco 3.46 per cent, Tatamtrd 3 per cent and ZEEL 2.91 per cent.

Notable gainers include, IBullhsgF 2.71 per cent, ACC 2.22 per cent, Adani Port 1.62 per cent, HCL Tech 1.42 per cent and Asian Paint 1.25 per cent.

A total of 1,277 shares declined, 412 advanced, while 74 ruled steady.

Total securities that hit their price bands were 104.

Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 28,922.90 crore, from Rs 27,632.43 crore yesterday.

A total of 14,574.13 lakh shares changed hands in 9,807,063 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms stood at Rs 12,263,587 crore.
