Nifty ends lower by 36 pts due to fresh selling

The NSE Nifty finished lower by 36 points to close at 8,831.55 due to fresh selling pressure from operators mainly in banking sector amdist mixed global cues.

The NSE Nifty Private Bank dropped by 1.23 pct followed by Nifty PSU Bank 1.03 per cent and Nifty Bank by 1.03 per cent.

The NSE Nifty opened higher at 8,880.75 and hovered in a range of 8,885.20 and 8,820.30 before finishing at 8,831.55, showing a loss of 35.90 points or 0.40 per cent.

Major losers were Axis Bank 5.80 pct followed by ACC 2.94 pct, Lupin 2.56 pct, Amuja Cement 2.47 pct and Aura pharma 1.84 pct.
 

However, Reliance Ind rose by 1.27 pct, Hcl Tecl 1.06 pct, Dr Reddy's lab 1.04 pct, BPCL 0.98 pct and TCS 0.85 pct.

A total of 619 scrips advanced, 998 declined, while 77 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 92.

Turnover in cash segment rose to Rs 24,624.76 crs from Rs 21,823.37 crore from yesterday.

A total of 10,769.05 lakh shares changed hands in 88,05,043 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 1,10,25,247 crore.
