The November derivative series began and the Samvat 2072 ended on a positive note as the Nifty closed with gains of 23 points to finish at 8,638.00 at the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
Though, the market opened on a flat note amid mixed Asian cues but later witnessed gains on account of buying in select stocks.

Elsewhere, Asian stocks witnessed a mixed trend. While European stocks were trading narrowly mixed in their afternoon trade as earnings season continues amid heightened expectations that the US Federal Reserve will raise rates in the near-term.
Meanwhile, Foreign funds sold shares worth a net Rs 469.93 crore yesterday, as per provisional data released by exchanges.
Shares of auto, FMCG, energy, bank, metal, PSU bank, media and pharma witnessed buying, well supported by midcap and smallcap shares.
The NSE 50-share Nifty resumed at 8,625.00 and hovered in a range of 8,653.75 and 8,581.75 before closing at 8,638.00, showing a gain of 22.75 points, or 0.26 per cent from last close.
Major gainers were TechM (5.20 per cent), Zeel (3.17 per cent), Bajaj Auto (3.14 per cent), TataMtdvr (2.92 per cent) and Tata Motor (2.87 per cent).
Major losers included ICICI Bank (2.62 per cent), Infratel (2.29 per cent), EicherMot (1.93 per cent), Cipla (1.81 per cent) and Idea (1.68 per cent).
A total of 969 scrips advanced, 651 declined, while 70 ruled steady. Total securities that hit their price bands were 117.
Turnover in cash segment slumped to Rs 21,552.13 crore from Rs 26,858.34 crore yesterday.
A total of 10,828.49 lakh shares changed hands in 79,42,702 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 11,131,478 crore.
