NSE benchmark Nifty extended its gains for the second consecutive day, moving up by another 16 points to close at 8,742.55 on buying in media and FMCG counters amid mixed Asian cues.
The 50-share index opened higher at 8,743.85 and hovered in a range of 8,751.95 and 8,704.35 before finishing at 8,742.55, showing a gain of 15.95 points or 0.18 per cent.
It has gained by 26.95 points or 0.31 per cent in two days.

Major gainers were BHEL (2.70 per cent), Zee (2.45 per cent), Reliance Industries (1.94 per cent), Maruti (1.65 per cent) and ITC (1.61 per cent).
However, Yes Bank fell by 2.53 per cent, followed by Power Grid (2.43 per cent), Axis Bank (2.17 per cent), Tata Steel (2.01 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp (1.86 per cent).
A total of 854 scrips advanced, 741 declined while 89 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 100.
Turnover in cash segment fell to Rs 19,231.73 crore from Rs 22,029.69 crore yesterday.
A total of 10,529.19 lakh shares changed hands in 73,81,573 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 1,08,53,259.00 crore.
