Nifty extends gains for 2nd day, up 103 pts

Extending gains for the second session, benchmark Nifty surged 103 points to end at 9,897.30 today on good buying in FMCG, PSU bank, metal and auto sectors amid positive global cues.

European stocks were trading higher in their afternoon trade. Key indices in France, Germany and UK rose up to 0.98 per cent.

In the US, the main benchmarks ended little changed overnight amid better-than-expected retail sales data and an abatement of tensions between the US and North Korea.

The NSE Nifty opened higher at 9,825 85 and moved in a range of 9,903.95 and 9,773.85 before ending at 9,897.30, showing a gain of 103.15 points or 1.05 per cent.
 

The Nifty has gained 186.50 points or 1.92 per in two trading days.

Nifty FMCG rose by 2.51 per cent, followed by PSU Bank 2.10 per cent, Metal 1.72 per cent, Auto 1.68 per cent, Financial Services 1.38 per cent, Bank 1.34 per cent and Pharma 1.16 per cent.

A total of 1,148 scrips advanced, 538 declined while 68 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 134.

Major index gainers were Tata Chemicals 4.41 per cent, Tata Motors 3.69 per cent, Cipla 3.58 per cent, Bank Of Baroda 3.44 per cent and Tata Power 3.14 per cent.

However, Asian Paints fell 1.19 per cent, NTPC 0.96 per cent, Yes Bank 0.94 per cent, Power Grid 0.92 per cent and Infosys 0.64 per cent.

Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 26,122.12 crore from Rs 23,896.76 crore previously.

A total of 13,571.5 lakh shares changed hands in 9,548,320 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms on the NSE stood at Rs 12,905,107 crore.
