Benchmark Nifty rose further by 18.10 points today on sustained buying mainly in Energy, Auto, Infra and FMCG counters amid mixed Asian cues.
Overseas, European markets were moderately lower as investors waited to hear from ECB President Mario Draghi. Asia ended mixed with Japan's Nikkei rising around 1 per cent.
The NSE 50-share Nifty index opened higher at 8,418.40 and hovered in a range of 8,445.15 and 8,404.05 before ending at 8,435.10, showing a rise of 18.10 points or 0.23 per cent.

On the sectoral front, Energy rose by 1.30 per cent, Auto 0.67 per cent, FMCG 0.49 per cent, Infra 0.48 per cent and PSU Bank 0.33 per cent.
However, Pharma fell by 0.60 per cent, Realty 0.33 per cent, Financial Service 0.25 per cent, Private Bank 0.25 per cent and Media 0.23 per cent.
Major index gainers were GAIL (5.04 per cent), Idea (2.82 per cent), BPCL (2.81 per cent), Tata Motors DVR (2.85 per cent) Bharti Infratel (2.20 per cent) and PowerGrid (2.07 per cent).
However, Axis Bank fell 1.96 per cent, followed by Aurobindo Pharma (1.41 per cent), Lupin (1.19 per cent), Sun Pharma (1.00 per cent) and Ultratech Cement (1.15 per cent).
A total of 840 scrips advanced, 780 declined, while 87 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 105.
Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 17,974.62 crore from Rs 19,449.61 crore as on Wednesday.
A total of 9,829.22 lakh shares changed hands in 7,234,104 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 10,949,993.70 crore.
