Bouncing back towards the fag-end of the session in an otherwise choppy trade, NSE benchmark Nifty today closed 3 points higher with gains in IT, PSU and banking stocks, tracking a higher opening in the European markets.
Sentiment remained mixed ahead of expiry of August derivatives and a speech by the US Federal Reserve Chief Janet Yellen.
Overseas, European stocks extended gains, buoyed by euro zone's August PMI that came in at a seven-month high. Markets are in wait-and-see mode ahead of a speech on Friday by US Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen at Jackson Hole and clues about the timing of the next US interest rate hike.
