Nifty snaps 6-day winning spree, down 43 pts

The NSE 50-share Nifty snapped its six-day winning spree today, slipping 43 points to close below the 8,900-level at 8,896.70 due to selling pressure mainly in banking counters on the back of lower global cues ahead of a speech to the Congress by US President Donald Trump.

The Nifty resumed higher at 8,943.70 and hovered in a range of 8,951.80 and 8,888.65 before closing at 8,896.70, showing a loss of 42.80 points or 0.48 per cent.

The Nifty had gained 214.80 points or 2.46 per cent in previous six sessions.

Major losers were Idea (4.22 per cent), Axis Bank (3.64 per cent), Bharti Infratel (3.27 per cent), Power Grid (3.21 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (2.88 per cent).
 

Gainers included Reliance (4.75 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma (1.97 per cent), Lupin (0.97 per cent), HUL (0.96 per cent) and Wipro (0.75 per cent).

Sector-wise, Private Bank fell 1.50 per cent, Bank 1.26 per cent, PSU Bank 1.06 per cent and Infra 1.26 per cent.

A total of 965 scrips declined, 707 advanced, while 74 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 114.

Turnover in cash segment fell to Rs 23,916.08 crore from from Rs 33,124.92 crore previously.

A total of 11,892.02 lakh shares changed hands in 8,308,773 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 11,554,321 crore.
