The Nifty snapped its last 6-day winning spree, ending lower by 101 points to close below 7,700-level to 7,615.10 in view of profit-booking ahead of the head of the expiry of derivative contracts of March contract on coming Thursday.
Lower Asian advices also affected the market sentiment.
Shares of metal, realty, bank, pharma, infra, auto and commodities sectors were the major losers of the day.

The 50-share Nifty resumed higher at 7,741.00 and hovered in a range of 7,749.40 and 7,587.40 before ending at 7,615.10, showing a loss of 101.40 points or 1.31 per cent.
It had gained by 255.90 or 3.43 per cent in previous six trading sessions.
Major losers were Vedl (9.19 per cent), Hindalco (8.82 per cent), Tata Steel (5.69 per cent), Sunpharma (4.37 per cent) and SBI (4.22 per cent), while Kotak Bank rose by 1.46 pct, followed by NTPC by 1.41 pct, Power Grid by 1.20 pct, Bosch Ltd 1.14 pct and Ambuja cement by 0.64 pct.
Turnover in cash segment rose to Rs 17,410.16 crore from Rs 15,928.46 crore last Wednesday .
A total of 8,442.19 lakh shares changed hands in 71,39,903 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 91,26,196 crore.
