Nifty snaps 9-day winning run, slips 22.50 pts

The NSE Nifty snapped its nine-day winning streak today to end 22.50 points lower at 10,526.20, dragged down by banking, finance service, pharma, auto and energy sectors

However, FMCG, media, realty and metal counters were in demand.

Overseas, European markets were trading higher as investors monitored a fresh batch of corporate earnings and economic data. Asian stocks ended higher as an encouraging US earnings season underscored resilient growth.

The broader Nifty 50 index slipped 22.50 points or 0.21 percent to end at 10,526.20, after moving in a range of 10,594.20 and 10,509.70. It witnessed an intra-day movement of about 84.50 points.

Sector-wise, PSU Bank fell by 1.10 per cent, followed by Bank 0.92 per cent, Private Bank 0.91 per cent, Auto 0.53 per cent, Pharma 0.43 per cent, Energy 0.40 per cent and IT 0.29 per cent.

 

On the other hand, FMCG rose by 1.74 per cent, media 1.42 per cent, realty 0.57 per cent and metal 0.40 per cent.

Major index gainers were ITC, Wipro, UltraTech Cement, Zee, GAIL, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Vedanta and NTPC.

The losers were HPCL, Axis Bank, Titan, Lupin, Tech Mahindra, M&M, Bajaj Finance, BPCL, IOC and HCL Tech.

The market breadth, indicating its overall health, was in favour of losers. On the NSE, 690 stocks advanced, 1,109 declined and 100 remained unchanged.

Turnover in the cash segment eased to Rs 28,005.98 crore from Rs 28,198.33 crore as on Tuesday.
