A Nigerian national was today arrested here for allegedly duping a woman after luring her through a social media website.

Ogoho, hailing from Benin city in Nigeria, was arrested with the help of cyber crime cell of Lucknow police and was allegedly part of a gang which dupes young girls and boys after becoming friendly with them on social media, Uttar Pradesh Police said.

A woman in Barabanki had lodged a complaint in August that she had been duped by a person posing as British national on social media with whom she had been chatting for sometime, a police spokesman said.

On her birthday, she alleged, the accused told her that he would be sending a costly gift for her and later asked her for money to pay customs duty for it, the spokesman said.

The woman has alleged that she parted with Rs 3.43 lakh but he told that her that the gift was seized by the customs at the Delhi airport for which more money was required.
