Leh town, 434 kms from here, recorded a night temperature of minus 7.4 degrees Celsius, while Kargil town was also freezing at a minimum of minus 6.8 degrees Celsius.
The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, which received the seasons first heavy snowfall last week, was the coldest place in the valley with a low of minus 6.9 degrees Celsius, a spokesman of the MET office said.
He said Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, below normal by 0.6 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature recorded at Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, was minus 2.3 degrees Celsius, the spokesman said.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, which also serves as the base camp during the annual Amarnath yatra, recorded a low of minus 3.4 deg C followed by Kupwara in north Kashmir (minus 2.8 deg C) and Kokernag in south (minus 1.3 deg C).
