Nilekani commits $200,000 to Nudge Foundation

Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani has committed USD 200,000 to the/Nudge Foundation, a non-profit organisation that focuses on sustainable poverty alleviation.

The announcement was made at the Global Mobile Internet Conference (GMIC) here for which the/Nudge Foundation is the social partner.

Additionally, the foundation received contributions of USD 50,000 from GWC (Great Wall Club), USD 75,000 from InMobi and USD 40,000 from Paytm at the event's fundraiser, it said in a release.

"The money pledged by each of these visionaries will enable the Foundation to reach its goal of pulling one million people sustainably out of poverty by 2020 at a much faster pace," The/Nudge Foundation Founder & CEO Atul Satija said.
 

Through an innovative approach to poverty alleviation, the organisation hopes to impart life-skills, literacy as well as livelihoods to the poor in an integrated fashion at residential 'Gurukuls'.

"The demographic dividend is one of India's biggest opportunities but is also a big challenge. The Nudge Foundation is focused on giving our underprivileged youth a decent second chance in life by investing in them in a unique learning environment. I am glad to support this initiative. We need projects like these to succeed at scale and speed," Nilekani said.

The foundation, launched on July 27 this year, has an illustrious team of Board and advisory members including, Arun Seth (Ex-chairman, British Telecom & Alcatel Lucent), Hugo Barra (Vice President, Xiaomi), Dr Pramath Raj Sinha (Founding Dean, ISB), Naveen Tewari (Founder & CEO, InMobi), Vijay Shekhar Sharma (Founder, Paytm & One97), Manish Dugar (Chief Financial Officer, InMobi) and Neeraj Arora (Vice President, WhatsApp).
