Nilgai run over by Haridwar passenger train

A speeding train mowed down a Nilgai which was crossing railway tracks near Manota Village here, police said today.

The incident occurred last evening and the Haridwar passenger train was held up for about 90 minutes till the carcass was cleared from the engine and rail tracks, Murad Nagar Police station SHO Ummed Yadav said.

The incident affected other rail traffic on the route, delaying the services by 90 minutes.

The delay evoked sharp reactions from passengers, who raised slogans against railway authorities over the same at the spot.

The train was on its way to Meerut when the incident occurred and the service resumed after some repair in the engine, the SHO said.
