Nine accused in a graft case in connection with the construction of Tuipanglui and Kau-Tlabung mini hydro electric projects were today granted anticipatory bail by a special court here.

Lucy Lalrinthari, special judge of the designated court under Prevention of Corrution Act, gave bail to the nine engineers, including former engineer-in-chief of state PWD Liansanga, former engineer-in-chief of Power and Electricity department C.L Thangliana and two former chief engineers.

In the order, Lalrinthari said that the bail was granted after the Additional Public Prosecutor did not object to making the interim bail order absolute.

The accused persons, in the event of arrest by state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials, would be released on a bail bond of Rs 50,000 with surety, the order said.

At least 16 engineers were indicted in the Tuipanglui (three MW) and Kau-Tlabung (three MW ) embezzlement case.

Of the 16, nine engineers had petitioned the court for anticipatory bail.

Aizawl-based anti corruption watchdog - People's Right to Information and Development Society of Mizoram (PRISM) - had initiated the multi-crore corruption case against the officials by filing Fist Information Report with ACB.
