Nine killed, 28 missing in a landslide in China

Nine people were killed and 28 others were missing when a landslide hit a village in east China's Zhejiang Province, officials said today.

The landslide was reported late last night in Lidong Village of Yaxi Township in the outlying Liandu District of Lishui City, the city government said in a press release.

Torrents of mud and rocks buried nearly 20 homes in the village, it said.

Rescue work began immediately after the landslide.

Only ten people have been found so far and nine of them were dead.

The only survivor was admitted to a hospital,state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Lishui reported heavy rain over the past two days.
 

It was still raining when the landslide happened, the local weather bureau said.
