Nine killed in crane-truck crash in China

Nine persons were killed and three others injured today when a crane crashed into a truck in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

A crane crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a truck, said the local work safety watchdog.

The truck, with a stated capacity of three, had 12 passengers and all the fatalities and injuries were in the truck.

Seven persons died on the spot. Of the five injured, two died later.

In the wake of the deadly accident, top provincial officials have ordered beefed-up highway safety management, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
