The mishap occurred when the labourers were on their way to Mangalore Special Economic Zone site for work.
While nine labourers died on the spot, the injured were rushed to a hospital, officials said. Most of the labourers hailed from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Bihar.
Angered by the incident, locals at Jokatte pelted stones at another MSEZ tempo which was ferrying labourers.
