Nine naxalites surrender in Odisha

As many as nine Naxals, including two women cadre of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), surrendered before the police in Koraput district today, police said.

"Motivated by the Maoist ideology we had joined the Naxal orgainsation but got disillusioned by the anti-tribal and anti-development activities of the Maoists. Hence, we decided to return to mainstream," the police said quoting the surrendered Maoists.

All the surrendered Maoists belongs to Narayanpatna and were working for the Koraput division of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist), the police said.

"Their role is suspected in the abetment of Maoist crimes between 2009 and 2013 under Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon police limits. They will be rehabilitated as per the prevailing surrender policy of the government," IG (south-western range) Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa said.
