Nine pilgrims killed in accident

The mishap occurred this afternoon when the bus, carrying 45 passengers, including 20 women, was going to Badrinath from Rishikesh, they said.

While six pilgrims died on the spot, three others succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital.

The injured have been admitted to Rishikesh government hospital. Senior administrative and police officials have rushed to the spot.

Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi and Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna have expressed grief over the death of pilgrims.

In his condolence message, Bahuguna has prayed for the peace of the departed souls and strength for the bereaved family members.

Bahuguna also announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to those seriously injured.

 

Dehra Dun District Magistrate Ravinath Raman has dispatched a team of three doctors from Rishikesh to the accident site so that immediate medical treatment could be rendered to the injured.
