A national seminar on 'Indigenous warships and avenues and opportunities for the Indian Rubber Industry' will be held at the Rubber Research Institute of India at Puthupally near Kottayam on June 6.
The seminar is being jointly organised by Nirdesh, the Kozhikode-based National Institute for R&D in defence shipbuilding and the Rubber Board, a press release said.
Rubber Board chairman Sheela Thomas will inaugurate the seminar while the keynote address will be delivered by Rear Admiral Ravikiran, Admiral Superintendent of Naval Ship Repair Yard, Kochi.

The seminar will provide a platform for the Indian rubber industry to interact with shipyards, Navy, DRDO labs, R&D institutions and other agencies involved in building of warships and submarines.
Other agencies like ISRO and BEL are also participating. Papers presented at the seminar will bring out areas of application of rubber, properties of rubber used on warships and how Indian industry can develop and supply rubber products for warships and submarines.
Arrangements have been made at the seminar for industries to register as vendors for shipyards and display their products and capabilities.
