Nirmala Sitharaman visits Jamnagar Air Force Station

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today paid a visit to Jamnagar Air Force Station and took first hand information about the role and nature of operations undertaken by the Indian Air Force at the air base.

A static display of various aircrafts that had operated from the base as well as weapon systems were shown to the defence minister during her visit to the Air Traffic Control Centre there, said a release by the Defence PRO for Gujarat.

She even sat in the cockpit of a static MiG29 fighter aircraft during her visit, said the release.

Earlier during the day, the minister visited the Nirma University campus in Ahmedabad, where the headquarters of South Western Air Command has organised an awareness drive "Know Your Air Force", aimed at encouraging young students to consider making a career with the Air Force, said the release.
 

During her visit, she also witnessed live demonstration of special heliborne operations by the Garud Commandos of the IAF.

The two day exposition, which ended today, comprised of static display of IAF's equipment and weapon systems as well as live action to motivate young students to choose the IAF as preferred career option, said the release.
