Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam today called on Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao along with a delegation of aggrieved parents of students affected by fee hike by private schools.

Nirupam said the delegation's aim was to apprise Rao of the unreasonable fee hike that private schools have imposed on the students.

"The government has failed to act for these parents. It's heart-wrenching to see that our administration is failing our people and acting in such a reckless manner. I just wanted to raise a voice for the parents. This fee hike must be reversed with immediate effect," he said in a statement.

As per the Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Regulation of Fee) Act, 2011, private school managements must seek PTA executive panel's approval for any fee hike six months before the start of the new academic year.

Nirupam claimed that the Governor has promised to take up the issue with the state government and try to resolve it.
