NIT ragging case: Rijiju asks Tripura CM to take action

Union minister Kiren Rijiju today urged Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to take action in the alleged ragging of some students at the NIT in Agartala, where a student from Arunachal Pradesh was reportedly injured.

Rijiju telephoned the Tripura chief minister and DGP A K Shukla and asked them to do the needful on the "violent incident of ragging".

"The violent incident of Ragging at NIT, Agartala is very unfortunate. I spoke to CM @BjpBiplab ji and DGP Tripura. The Police is taking appropriate actions (sic), Rijiju tweeted.

As per reports from Agartala, a student from Arunachal Pradesh and a few other first-year students were allegedly beaten up in the name of ragging at NIT, Agartala.
 

Reports said that the police initially did not file a complaint, but later registered an FIR following the intervention of Tripura's royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debburman and protests by people.
