A group of 20 students from Arunachal's Changlang, Tirap and Longding are on a week-long National Integration Tour (NIT) to Kolkata since Monday.

The students today interacted with Bengal Area Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Harsha Kakar, a Defence communique said here.

The students and two teachers are accompanied by Major Rohit Pujari and other personnel from Jairampur-based 42 Assam RiflesBattalion in Changlang district.

Although coming from the vast quietness of a serene region near the Indo-Myanmar border, the hustle-bustle of a metro city has been a great learning experience for the children who although astounded remain unfazed, said Tenlung Massang, an accompanying teacher, also on his maiden outing here.

The NIT is an endeavour by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles to help young students from remote areas of north-east integrate with mainstream India. The students are from government higher secondary schools of Jairampur, Miao, Longding and Khonsa.

Besides experiencing a tram ride and a walk along the riverfront, the students also visited other iconic landmarks including Science City, Race Course, Brigade Garden and Brigade Parade Road, Victoria Memorial and Fort William. .
