Presiding over a review meeting of the implementation of the NHIS by the Labour department, Kumar asked the DMs and the CMOs to personally inspect the facilities at the private hospitals registered under the scheme and if they are not satisfied with the facilities, they should recommend scrapping of the names of such hospitals under the scheme.

The DMs and the CMOs should carrying out inspection in the private hospitals in a time-bound manner so that the people insured under the NHIS received required medical facilities under the scheme, he said.

As many as 100 private and 50 government hospitals are registered under the NHIS to provide health facilities to the insurers like the BPL families, Bidi labourers, construction and MNREGA workers, KCC holders, street vendors, household servants and porters among 71 lakh people of the state.

The Chief Minister directed the labour department to expand the coverage of beneficiaries under the NHIS and ensure the validity of the smart card on permanent basis so that the insures should not have to run from pillar to post for renewal of their health cards.

The labour department should also ensure that those people ensured under the NHIS must not be made to fork out money for OPD facilities in the hospitals, he said.
