Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday expressed grief over demise of eminent Madhubani painting and Sujni artist Karpuri Devi and noted eye specialist Dr Rajendra Sinha.
Karpuri Devi was 90 and is survived by a son and a daughter.
She had been ailing for several weeks and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Madhubani, officials said.
In his message, Kumar said that an era of art has ended with the death of Karpuri Devi.
She played an important role in giving new dimensions to both Madhubani painting and Sujni art across the globe, an official release said.
Her death has caused irreparable loss to the field of art, it said.
The CM also condoled the death of noted eye specialist Dr Rajendra Sinha.

Dr Sinha was the husband of Dr Tara Sinha, the granddaughter of first President Dr Rajendra Prasad.
Dr Sinha was 83 and is survived by wife Dr Tara Sinha and two daughters.
He died at his residence in the state capital on Tuesday.
In his message, Kumar said that Dr Rajendra Sinha was a famous doctor who had interest in social service.
His death has caused an irreparable loss, the CM said.
