"All is well that ends well," he said in a statement adding the violence that claimed two lives in a clash between the general people and students and the police in Madhubani over the handing over of the body believed to be that of the boy was 'unfortunate'.

The state Director General of Police, Abhayanand had informed him that the boy, Prashant Kumar Jha and Priti Chaudhary who had eloped last month had appeared in Mehrauli police station in Delhi after being found out during the day, he added.

His bete noir RJD President Lalu Prasad, who was arrested for leading a protest during Bihar bandh over the Madhubani violence in the day, however, blamed the state police intelligence's failure for it.

"This is a failure of the government and its police department ... The state's police intelligence seems to exist only on paper," Prasad told reporters.

He said the chief minister should apologise to the people for the police firing and violence in Madhubani on Friday and Saturday in which at least two persons were killed and many wounded.

Prasad said on October 12 when Kumar held a high-level meeting on the Madhubani violence he should have categorically said that a beheaded body of an unidentified person had been recovered from the railway track and would be subjected to a DNA after the boy's family claimed it. "This would have prevented the situation from taking an ugly turn."

Opposition parties - RJD, LJP, Congress and Left parties observed a day-long bandh in the state against the police action and alleged deterioration in law and order - the first major one since NDA returned to power with a thumping majority in 2010.
