Stating that the Opposition's demand for a CBI probe into the journalist's killing in Siwan finally paid off, BJP today asked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to take "another resolve" to check crime in the state.
"The Chief Minister has finally agreed for a CBI probe into the journalist murder case following the Opposition's sustained demand. It is good that the CM has accepted our demand, but he should also ensure justice to the family of the journalist so that such incidents are not repeated," BJP national spokesman Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters here.
Asserting that Kumar should establish "rule of law" and "good governance" in the state, Shahnawaz said the grand alliance government need to take "another resolve (nischay)" to wipe out crime from the state.
"If it (crime) is there in the state, then not a single resolve (of the seven resolves) is going to be translated on the ground," he said.
The Nitish Kumar government had in February last given nod for implementation of 'seven resolves' (Saat Nischay) in five years to provide education loans of up to Rs four lakh to students, electricity connection to all villages, piped water supply to every household, road and drainage in urban areas, etc.
Hussain, who was accompanied by state BJP leaders Vinod Narayan Jha, Sudhir Sharma and Surajnandan Kushwaha, said apart from making Bihar a liquor-free state, the Nitish government should take efforts to make it a crime-free state.
With regard to Kumar's comments that crime rate was much higher in other states, the BJP leader said, "We have not witnessed a spurt in crime within six months of government formation in any other state. Bihar is the only state where ruling legislators are involved in crimes that have occurred in the past six months."
The state government has got the mandate to contain crime in the state and not for taking steps after incidents occur, he said.
Terming the rule in the state as "Maha jungle raj of the Maha Gathbandhan", Hussain said Nitish Kumar was toeing the line of his deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav.
Yadav had compared the Gaya youth killing with Pathankot terror attack, while Kumar was comparing the journalist's murder with Vijay Mallya fleeing the country, Hussain said.
