Nitish inaugurates centenary celebrations of Mounted Military

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said the state government's decision to divide the law and order and investigation into separate wings has been implemented in 90 to 95 per cent of the police stations.

This has helped in speeding up probe into the cases as well in maintaining the law and order more efficiently, Kumar said after inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Mounted Military Police (MMP) at Ara, the district headquarters town of Bhojpur.

The state government had taken the decision to create two separate wings at police station level by enacting a new Police Act in 2007.

Kumar asked the policemen to take advantage of new technique along with the traditional mode of functioning while carrying out investigations into various crime incidents.

 

Speaking at the MMP ground in Ara, Kumar praised the demonstration put up by its personnel and said similar shows should be held at different places of the state.

"These things should be maintained and expanded further. The state government will provide adequate funds for the purpose," Kumar said while reminiscing the importance of MMP in his life.

"When I became MP 30 years ago, people used to ask me for deployment of MMP in the 'taal' area of my constituency (old Lok Sabha seat of Barh). I got to know about the MMP since those days," he said, according to an official release.

The majority of murder cases are arising out of property dispute and personal enmity, the cm observed.

Enumerating his government's various initiatives for the police force, Kumar said they have implemented 35 per cent quota for women in police, constructed separate toilets for women in all police stations, police academy at Rajgir besides setting up a new police headquarters at Nehru Path (Bailey road) in the capital town.

"When we have done so much for you (policemen), then we want you to discharge your responsibility by providing safety and security to the people," he exhorted the police personnel.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Amir Subhani, Director General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey and Director General (Bihar Military Police) S K Singhal also spoke on the occasion.
